CINCINNATI— An Ohio man has filed a formal noise complaint against Serpent Mound, arguing that the ancient Adams County earthwork has been producing an “ongoing spiritual vibration” inconsistent with reasonable rural quiet.

The complaint, sent to multiple state and county offices, alleges the site has emitted a low metaphysical resonance that can be felt during still weather. Though no audible sound was recorded, officials confirmed the filing included a hand-drawn map, three highlighted moon phases, and what was described as an “approximate retrograde schedule.”
“I’m not saying it’s loud in the traditional sense,” said local resident Randy Kelso, who reviewed the complaint. “But you can tell when a place is no longer keeping to itself.”
State officials declined to say whether the mound is noisy or silent, noting only that Serpent Mound remains a protected historical site and that any reported vibration would be reviewed under existing preservation standards. A spokesman said the agency takes seriously “all citizen reports involving land use, heritage assets, and recurring unseen pressure.”
The man, who claims the issue worsened after the spring equinox, has requested a temporary dusk curfew for the mound until authorities determine whether the vibration is natural, ceremonial, or “the result of an ancient agreement no longer being properly managed.” He also asked that nearby signage disclose the site’s “active interior mood.”
“It’s not enough to keep telling people it’s sacred,” said Brenda Wooten, an area resident who supports a formal review. “Sacred can still carry.”
As of press time, officials had not issued a citation, though sources close to the situation said the mound had been asked to keep things “as low frequency as possible after sunset.”
Ohio Man escaped and remains at large in Ohio.
